Rangers Drop Season Opener to Chagrin Falls, now look to Normandy Thanksgiving Tournament

Posted by Lakewood Rangers Varsity Ice Hockey on Nov 22 2020 at 06:00AM PST in 2020-2021

The Lakewood Rangers opened up their 2020-2021 season at Winterhurst on Saturday night, but ended up on the short end of an 8-1 verdict to divisional rival Chagrin Falls.

Chagrin wasted no time getting onto the scoreboard, scoring 10 seconds into the game and never looking back. Sporting a senior laden squad, the Tigers outshot the Rangers 41-18 en route to the win. Alex Blink scored the only goal of the contest for Lakewood, finding the net at the 7:54 mark of the third period, erasing the Tigers shutout. Michael Grucella stopped 33 Tiger shots during the contest.

The Rangers now will participate in the Normandy Thanksgiving tournament. They will square off against North Olmsted, CVCA and Normandy Friday, Saturday and Sunday respectively.
Last season, Lakewood won all three games in the tourney, but didn’t advance to the tournament championship on a tiebreaker.

The puck drops at 6:15pm on Friday when the Rangers skate against North Olmsted..
