Behind a two goal performance of Eli Ladue, the Lakewood Rangers won the opening game of the Normandy Christmas tournament 4-1 over the Nordonia Knights. Ladue, who played his first game of the season , returning from a broken hand suffered during soccer season, got his first goal of the game in the third period and added an empty netter to finish off the Lakewood scoring. Jude Johnson opened up the Ranger scoring on a power play goal with 5 minutes gone in the first period. and Alex Blinky gave the Rangers a 2-1 lead 50 seconds into the third period on a power play goal. Michael Grucella turned away 15 of the Knights 16 shots in the win.

The Lakewood power play looked in mid season form scoring in two of three opportunities.

Lakewood returns home to host CVCA on Saturday night the 19th in the second game of a three game weekend, Puck drops at 8:10 for the contest.

The pause in the Lakewood Ranger hockey season has been extended until December 7th as Chagrin Falls, the team that Lakewood played last weekend has had a player come down with the covid virus and the Lakewood players are quarantined until the 7th.

In addition, the scheduled game against Chagrin Falls scheduled for December 11th has been cancelled as The Tigers have shut down their hockey program until January 1st.

The Rangers will resume practice and all hockey activities on Monday December 7th.

The Lakewood Board of Education has suspended participation in any interscholastic sports contests through November 30th. On that day, they will revaluate the suspension and the direction moving forward for all the winter sports teams.

The Lakewood Rangers opened up their 2020-2021 season at Winterhurst on Saturday night, but ended up on the short end of an 8-1 verdict to divisional rival Chagrin Falls.

Chagrin wasted no time getting onto the scoreboard, scoring 10 seconds into the game and never looking back. Sporting a senior laden squad, the Tigers outshot the Rangers 41-18 en route to the win. Alex Blink scored the only goal of the contest for Lakewood, finding the net at the 7:54 mark of the third period, erasing the Tigers shutout. Michael Grucella stopped 33 Tiger shots during the contest.

The Rangers now will participate in the Normandy Thanksgiving tournament. They will square off against North Olmsted, CVCA and Normandy Friday, Saturday and Sunday respectively.
Last season, Lakewood won all three games in the tourney, but didn’t advance to the tournament championship on a tiebreaker.

The 14 game GCHSHL leage schedule for the Rangers has been announced. A new set of league opponents are on the Lakewood schedule as the league realigned over the past spring. Along with holdovers Normandy and Chagrin Falls, the Rangers now have Canfield, CVCA, Mayfield, NDCL and Nordonia in the Blue North Division. As in the past, the puck drops for league games at 7pm at Winterhurst Arena.
